Pre-cosmetic surgery instructions
- Consultation: First, discuss your health and aesthetic goals with the surgeon to reach a successful cosmetic option and receive appropriate instructions.
- Prepare a list of questions before the consultation.
- Disclose complete medical history and any previous surgeries.
- Disclose any allergies to medications or food.
- Provide important previous tests related to the procedure or its preparations.
- The doctor will provide a complete explanation of the procedure to ensure the patient is well-informed.
- The doctor will discuss the possible complications associated with the procedure, including rare occurrences such as bruising, swelling, scars, etc., which generally have an occurrence rate of 1-5% or less.
ONE WEEK BEFORE THE SURGERY
- Refrain from smoking.
- Disclose any current medications and discuss them.
- Avoid medications and dietary supplements that increase the risk of bleeding (such as aspirin products, estrogen hormones, and herbal medications).
- Meet the anesthesiologist and undergo the necessary tests according to the case.
- (Important note for women: Stop taking hormonal birth control pills 4-6 weeks before surgery).
ONE DAY BEFORE THE SURGERY
Take a shower and sleep in clean sheets and pajamas.
On the Day of the Surgery
- Shower again in the morning.
- Remove any jewelry and avoid wearing cosmetic powders.
- Pack personal belongings and wear loose clothing.
- Avoid eating or drinking after midnight.
- Arrive at the hospital according to the medical team's instructions.
- Follow any specific instructions provided by the medical team.
- You will be examined by Dr. Khalid Arab before the start of the surgery for marking, planning and addressing any questions regarding the procedure.
AFTER THE SURGERY
- Compression garments will be applied after liposuction to help reduce swelling, bruising, and pain. The wrapping can be a compression bandage or elastic dressings.
- The patient may need to stay overnight in the clinic after the surgery.
- Avoid driving for 48 hours after the surgery.
- Make sure to take the prescribed medications from the medical team before leaving.
- The medical team will visit to check your health and ensure your well-being after the surgery.
- A follow-up appointment will be scheduled.
- Use compression garments.
Post-cosmetic surgery instructions
Rest and Exercise
01Take an initial period of rest but avoid prolonged bed rest.
Light exercises can be resumed after a few weeks according to the surgeon’s instructions.
Lifting Objects
02Avoid lifting heavy objects or engaging in strenuous activities or exertion for 3 weeks and avoid lifting anything above the head for 2 weeks.
Sleeping Position
03Sleep on your back with elevated support pillows for the first three days; after this period, you can return to sleeping flat on your back.
Hygiene
04Maintain personal hygiene while avoiding wetting the dressing.
Heat Exposure
05Avoid saunas and tanning sessions.
Compression garments
07Continue wearing them according to the doctor’s instructions (3-8 weeks).
Scar Care After Surgery
First Week
- The first dressing should only be changed under the direction of the doctor.
- Showering is prohibited unless directed by the doctor.
- The doctor will change the dressing within the first five to seven days after surgery.
- The doctor will remove any tubes if present.
Second Week
- Showering with shampoo is allowed as usual.
- There are no specific instructions for the scars. The doctor will schedule a visit within 3-5 weeks to examine them. If there are any concerns, please consult the doctor directly or through the coordinators.
After 4-6 weeks
- Silicone sheets/gels are used on the scar according to the doctor's instructions for 8-16 hours per day (it is recommended to continue this for 6 months).
- Vitamin E oil is applied to the scar with massage according to the doctor's instructions (it is recommended to continue this for 6 months).
- Fractional laser surgery is recommended, along with follow-up with a dermatologist.
- The final result starts to appear during this period and improves within 4-6 months with proper care.
How to manage pain after surgery?
- The medical team will provide local anesthesia if necessary to alleviate pain during the first 24 hours, if possible.
- Pain medication will be prescribed, usually 2-3 medications depending on the condition. Their effect is often effective and sufficient for pain relief in the first and second weeks after surgery.
- Most surgeries are outpatient procedures, and the patient can be discharged on the same day or the next day.
